Have you considered initiating a court case due to a dispute with a landlord, neighbor, friend, or someone else in your community or are you currently in court? If so, you are are in the right place! What you are going through is frustrating, unbelievable, and is probably impacting your day to day life. If you’re considering initiating a court case or are already in court, it’s because you’ve tried to manage this issue to the best of your ability and this feels like the only way to get things resolved. While it is absolutely your right to get the courts involved, it can also bring on additional stressors that you may be able to avoid. In addition to costs you will incur, bringing a case to court removes some of the control you can have over the process and the outcome. A judge will ultimately decide and of course on the court’s schedule. Choosing to engage in mediation can put you in the driver’s seat and might be less costly in the end.
Prior to receiving formal training from the New York Peace Institute, I have mediated many workplace conflicts as well as family/co-parenting disputes. I bring in some of my clinical skills into the mediation space but mediation is a completely different process. The goal is to reach a resolution on a particular dispute in 1-3 sessions. In mediation, I will help you brainstorm solutions that work for you and ultimately create the opportunity for all parties to reach an agreement. If no agreement is reached in the first session, parties have the opportunity to request an additional mediation session to try and work toward resolution. Mediation is YOUR process and as the mediator, I am there to help facilitate your dialogue, to listen to you, and move you toward solutions when it makes sense. No judgement, no advice, you are in charge!
